Praying for Relationship
Oh holy night The stars are brightly shining It is the night of our dear savior's birth Long lay the world in sin and error, pining 'Til He appeared and the soul felt it's worth
Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
(Oh, Holy Night - Christmas Carol)
As the year 2020 draws to a close, the darkness of the world and the disconnect between humans is so ominously felt. For as long as history can tell, one group of humans have been hurting another, leaving this world to ache in the sin and error. The darkness can be especially strong this time of the year, leaving the soul to pine for a redemption yet unseen.
And then a baby is born, grows to a man, dies, raises again, ascends to heaven, and in the process begins to knit together the great rifts coursing through the fabric of humanity. Through this strange God-Man, our value is created, our worth cemented. Chains begin to crumble, oppression itself bows under the crushing weight of His law of love and gospel of peace, opposing humans becoming family. This is the insidious effects of love seeping into the heart, until the soul begins to feel its own worth.
Oh, Lord, as so great a love comes from you, may I also love my neighbor, friend, and stranger. (1 John 4.7) May humility, gentleness, patience, and love maintain a unity which is your bond of peace; in your one spirit and one faith. Oh God, you are over all and through all and in all. (Eph. 4.1-6) We are all your children, not categorized by ethnicity, social status, or gender, but all one in you. (Gal. 3.26-28) Oh the beauty of unity between your holy trinity, so sweetly conveyed to us, so that we may be one. (John 17.22) This enables our souls to feel their worth, and also to convey the glorious worth to those around us. As my soul feels the grandeur of your imparted worth, may I also convey that worth to the souls around me.
